American Teens Are Not Consuming More Marijuana

Studies About The Consumption Of Marijuana

Many people had the idea that if marijuana becomes legal, teenagers will start consuming more of this herb and will become addicted to other drugs as well.  Today, several states in the US, have legalized marijuana for both medicinal and recreational purposes and the results are showing that teens are not getting more involved with this herb, as many once thought they would.

The High School Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System survey, which takes place every two years, recently revealed that the number of American high school students who consume marijuana, has not changed since 2011 to 2013.  The survey also revealed that today's use of marijuana among American teens, has actually dropped 3% from 1999, which was the year when most teens consumed cannabis in the US.

The collected data also showed that at least 23.4% of American high schools, consumed marijuana in the 30 days before the survey, during 2013, which is almost identical to the 23.1% that was collected from data in 2011.

From 2011 to 2013, five more states decided to make cannabis legal, (Massachusetts, Delaware, Illinois, Connecticut and New Hampshire) and this shows how legalization, will not increase the number of teens who consume this herb.

This has also happened in countries like Portugal and Holland, which have accepted marijuana and have not seen an increase of cannabis users, as thought by many out there.  It is time to legalize cannabis, because prohibition is simply stupid and has led us nowhere.

Marijuana is not a drug and it is certainly less dangerous than alcohol and tobacco.  It is time to change our world!
