Oregon May Legalize Marijuana For Recreational Purposes

More People Are Considering To Vote In Favor Of Marijuana

There is no doubt that the marijuana legalization movements, is continuing to move forward and that it is doing it very fast.  Today, we want to tell you about Oregon, which may also give its voters the opportunity to decide if they want marijuana to be legal for people over 21 years of age or not.  Cannabis for recreational purposes, is being considered in Oregon now and we are pretty certain that people will decide to vote in favor of this new law.

It will be today at 2 PM, when New Approach Oregon, which is a campaign meant to promote the legalization of cannabis, will submit around 145000 signatures to Secretary of State's office, so the issue can be brought to a vote.

In order for this campaign to qualify, it requires 87,213 registered Oregon voters' signatures and as you can see, we are well above that number right now.  The initiative, will give voters in Oregon, the opportunity to decide whether they want marijuana to be legal for recreational purposes or not.

Voters will also have a chance to decide if the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, should be in charge of legal marijuana, just as they have been regulating alcohol for some time now.  A similar campaign was carried out in 2012, but it did not achieve its goals.

This year, it looks as if Oregon will get the chance to vote on whether or not cannabis should be legal for recreational purposes in their State and this shows that we are in fact getting closer to legalizing marijuana worldwide.

Philadelphia Votes To Decriminalize Marijuana

New Cannabis Laws Coming To Philadelphia

As we talked about it yesterday, the City Council of Philadelphia, had a meeting to vote on whether or not they should decriminalize marijuana and you will be glad to know that they decided to vote in favor of this bill.  The legalizing cannabis movement is multiplying like a virus everywhere and at Zip 420, we are very glad that this meeting had a positive result.

More than 12 City Council members, agreed on allowing people to carry up to an ounce of cannabis, without being arrested and although changes to these laws in Philadelphia, may not take place until late September, it is great to hear that we are moving forward.

We still need to wait for the Mayor to decide whether to vote in favor of these new laws or not, but we are very hopeful that they will decide on decriminalizing marijuana as well.  It is obvious that this is the right thing to do, not only for economic reasons, but for social and medical reasons as well.  The Mayor of Philadelphia will be deciding the future of cannabis in this city, during the next three months, so we will keep you updated about this.

Philadelphia May Decriminalize Possession Of Marijuana

Philadelphia Is Voting On Decriminalizing Marijuana

It will be today, when Philadelphia's City Council, will vote on whether or not they should decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana in their city and at Zip 420, we hope that they vote in favor of this new bill.

Councilman Jim Kenney, sponsored this ordinance and it would make the possession of up to one ounce of cannabis a civil penalty.  This means that if a police office finds a person carrying a smaller amount of marijuana than the one mentioned above, they would only charge them a $25 fine and if it is paid, the person would not get the infraction on their record.

At the moment, police officers are meant to arrest people with these amounts of marijuana and they could spend some time in jail, which is certainly a very harsh penalty, for something that should be legal and benefits more than it harms our societies.

According to Councilman Kenney, if this ordinance is approved, they would be able to reduce the amount of work police officers focus on this and the city of Philadelphia, would also save more than $3 millions on jail expenses and more.

The meeting about this, should be taking place around 10 AM Philadelphia time today, so the news about this should not be long.

American Teens Are Not Consuming More Marijuana

Studies About The Consumption Of Marijuana

Many people had the idea that if marijuana becomes legal, teenagers will start consuming more of this herb and will become addicted to other drugs as well.  Today, several states in the US, have legalized marijuana for both medicinal and recreational purposes and the results are showing that teens are not getting more involved with this herb, as many once thought they would.

The High School Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System survey, which takes place every two years, recently revealed that the number of American high school students who consume marijuana, has not changed since 2011 to 2013.  The survey also revealed that today's use of marijuana among American teens, has actually dropped 3% from 1999, which was the year when most teens consumed cannabis in the US.

The collected data also showed that at least 23.4% of American high schools, consumed marijuana in the 30 days before the survey, during 2013, which is almost identical to the 23.1% that was collected from data in 2011.

From 2011 to 2013, five more states decided to make cannabis legal, (Massachusetts, Delaware, Illinois, Connecticut and New Hampshire) and this shows how legalization, will not increase the number of teens who consume this herb.

This has also happened in countries like Portugal and Holland, which have accepted marijuana and have not seen an increase of cannabis users, as thought by many out there.  It is time to legalize cannabis, because prohibition is simply stupid and has led us nowhere.

Marijuana is not a drug and it is certainly less dangerous than alcohol and tobacco.  It is time to change our world!

Please remember to share and like this blog post, so that more people can read about the legalization of marijuana, not influencing the number of American teens who use it.  You should also subscribe to our free newsletter, by leaving us your email in the box to the right and we will make sure to send you more interesting news about marijuana and the legalization of this herb.

Jamaica Is Decriminalizing Possession Of Marijuana

The Legalization Of Marijuana Keeps Moving

We have talked about Jamaica wanting to legalize cannabis, just as other countries are doing and it seems that this has finally happened, as the Jamaican government, has now decided to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana, which is a huge step towards the legalization of this herb.

Mark Golding, who is the Minister of Justice in Jamaica, announced today that the "Dangerous Drug Act" in Jamaica, will be changed this summer and that one of these changes, will include the decriminalization of marijuana.

The Prime Minister of Jamaica, Portia Simpson Miller, decided that this was going to happen since June 2nd and he told the press, "Cabinet approved certain changes to the law relating to ganja.  These relate to possession of small quantities of ganja for personal use, the smoking of ganja in private places and the use of ganja for medical-medicinal purposes.  Approval has been given also to a proposal for the decriminalization of the use of ganja for religious purposes.

The new changes, will allow people to have up to 57 grams or two ounces of cannabis on them, without any problem.  There will be some restrictions as to where people can smoke this herb and who can buy or sell it, but as said above, this is a huge step towards marijuana legalization across the globe and we are very happy that Jamaican leaders decided to do this.
